Michelle Hart - Osmosis Mastermind

All over the world, Osmosis estheticians are changing the way people treat their wellness and skincare concerns. Join us in celebrating an outstanding professional who is making a difference in the lives of her clients and community: Michelle Hart of Sheena’s Salon and Spa in Spencer MA.

Congratulations on being our first Osmosis Mastermind! We’d love to hear about your journey from clinical research scientist to becoming a licensed esthetician?

MICHELLE HART: I have a master’s degree in Biotechnology and am a clinical research scientist for 27 years. I currently research and discover drugs for rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, aging, transplantation, and inflammatory bowel disease. My  journey as a licensed esthetician began in 2019, when I graduated from Elizabeth Grady School of Esthetics and Massage Therapy, MA. I’m thrilled to share that I’ve joined my sisters, Sherry, and Sheena, at Sheena’s Salon and Spa in Spencer MA.

So yes, I have been a scientist for 27 years and decided to become an esthetician so I could do "lashes only".  I honestly wanted nothing to do with skin.

And here you are, 3 years later, as a Osmosis Mastermind:

MICHELLE HART: Yes, I’m incredibly passionate about what I do. Two months after becoming a licensed esthetician I entered the International Skin Games Competition in the New Esthetician Category and placed in the top 10.  Honestly, I entered the competition so I could understand the Osmosis Skincare line better. Once I started seeing results with my Osmosis 8 week case study I was hooked and wanted nothing else to do with lashes.

Tell us about your Osmosis 8 week case study?

MICHELLE HART: I have been using Osmosis skincare for 10 years and had enjoyed my results but really did not have any idea how great the product line was.  As a scientist I like data therefore all of my clients are like experiments, so I started taking pictures when I first see them and throughout different phases of treatments to go with my notes. In total, I ended up doing 15 case studies with before and after photos in 2021.

“I started using Osmosis products about a year ago after seeing my daughters’ amazing results from her teenage acne. I am 48 years old and up till a year ago I was aging rapidly from years of sun damage and age spots. Not to mention the wrinkles! I started the Osmosis treatment along with LED therapy and within 6 weeks the results were phenomenal! I’ve received so many compliments on my skin and how youthful I look for my age. My only regret is not starting the process sooner! Thanks to my esthetician, Michelle Hart and Osmosis I’ve gained so much confidence. Osmosis is a daily part of my routine and that will never change!  - Michelle’s Client

 And your Wellness Journey?

MICHELLE HART: When I reviewed Osmosis’s wellness products I decided I should try them all before selling them to my clients. I wanted to be able to share how I felt taking them and the benefits from them. I wanted my clients to feel reassured that I had first hand experience and that it was ok to try them.

And your own personal Wellness Protocol?

MICHELLE HART: I started Regenerate 6 capsules a day and am still at it.  I also developed a focused protocol to fit my specific wellness concerns: Ageless Vitality, Hormone Relief and Sugar Detox  7 pumps am/pm.

And Immune Activator?

MICHELLE HART: Yes! Immune Activator - 1 dropper under tongue a day.  Sometimes I apply topically as well in the evening to speed the damage repair process.

In September, I also started Recovery because I had 2 sebaceous hyperplasia. I had listened to a #ASKDRBEN podcast about Candida yeast in the gut causing sebaceous hyperplasia. And I said to myself - I need to fix this.

I also started Skin Defense (3 pills a day) in September. Skin defense is a toxin purifier.  It's charcoal based and pulls out toxins that cause melasma. I was listening to Renee in one of her training sessions about how she used it and I said oh I need that too!  Anything to speed up the process of fixing my skin.  It is helping with the estrogen toxicity.  I'm not sure I will ever stop these supplements as my skin has never felt better.

Would you share a bit about your passion for supporting your Oncology clients?

MICHELLE HART: I became certified in oncology esthetics and after starting to see Oncology clients, I realized there was an unmet financial need for supporting their skincare needs.

So you’ve started a nonprofit?

MICHELLE HART: My goal is for everyone to feel beautiful and confident in their own skin.  I have a passion for helping people and when I understood the financial need I decided to start a nonprofit.  In November 2021, Beautifying Oncology Spa Services – B.O.S. Inc. was approved by the state of MA. Our website is in the process of being built and I am  hoping for the website to be up and running soon.

"Michelle is the most enthusiastic esthetician for Osmosis that I know! Her career as a scientist and heart-centered approach is an amazing combination that delivers unbelievable results for her clients. She is so adored and respected and I love working with her."

As a scientist and an esthetician, what would be your top suggestion for how to invest in your health?

MICHELLE HART: So to be honest, as a scientist I did not really believe in holistic healing and thought Advil fixed everything.  I had a horrible diet and a fast metabolism so I never worried about eating healthy.  Then I hit my mid 40s and did a deeper dive into Osmosis and listened to Dr. Ben on everything from his podcasts to his live shows.  He is an inspiration to me and has changed my thinking.  Now I try to make it to CrossFit class at least 4x a week, eat 80% healthier and I’ve kicked my sugar addiction with Sugar Detox Elixir. I need to be held accountable so I am working with a trainer at the gym to help me focus on nutrition as this is not my strong suit.

Everyone is different and I feel that people need to set baby goals - what I mean by this is that they need to set achievable goals for a week. For example, if you want to increase your water intake from 1 glass a day try setting a goal of 2 glasses a day for a week and then the next week increase to 3.

If you fail, do not give up. Simply find a different strategy to help you achieve the small goal.

If you want to set a fitness goal - again baby steps.  Find something that you love doing and turn it into fitness whether it is hiking, swimming, walking or running.  Find a friend or partner that likes doing it with you and hold each other accountable.  After you start doing it successfully it becomes a habit and then it's part of your routine.  Excuses are a big reason why people quit or give up.  Get to the bottom of these excuses and find out why they are stopping you.  I believe you can do anything you put your mind to. There may be some obstacles in the way but ask for help in overcoming them.

What’s your favorite product?

MICHELLE HART: Osmosis Facial Infusion Dermal Rejuvenating System with the RevitaPen Pro.  I honestly had no clue how amazing this treatment is!! After seeing the amazing results in just 4 weeks, I try to have all of my clients incorporate this treatment into their service.

And Stemfactor Growth Factor Serum- Everyone over 40 should be using this!

What’s a top skincare or wellness trend you’re following?

MICHELLE HART: I’ve been wanting to step up my service menu, so I’ve done a ton of research and taken a Gua sha class. I am also following the CrossFit games. I love to see where I fit in the competition, it pushes me to be physically and mentally stronger

How has your business changed with the Covid pandemic?

MICHELLE HART: Actually yes it has. We have been blessed with new clients and I’m booked out 4 weeks in advance.  I think the pandemic had a positive impact on people wanting to take better care of themselves inside and out.  I am finding that people are taking more  time for self care and are realizing how fabulous they actually feel when they take care of themselves.

I love to pamper people and help them feel and look their best. I specialize in facial treatments tailored to fit individual client’s needs, gua sha, body wraps, lash lifting, lash tinting, and NOVA Lash extensions – Classic, American Volume and London Volume.

What are you looking forward to this year?

MICHELLE HART: So many things. I love spending time with my husband and watching my 2 sons become men. Being an active person, you can find me at CrossFit, hiking with my 2 dogs, swimming, kayaking, or at the beach. I love family gatherings and scrapbooking with my sisters, I’m Christian woman and I love spending time with my church family and coordinating Vacation Bible camp in the summer for the kids.

I love birdwatching and I have an appreciation for nature. There’s an app on my phone to track all of the birds I’ve seen this year. Luckily, I’ve gotten to see some fairly rare birds like an indigo bunting, a scarlet tanager and 38 other species so far. I buy all types of bird food and do experiments to see what draws them in. Nut and berry blends are very popular  - it's like feeding trail mix to them!

Any final thoughts you have about the future?

MICHELLE HART: I believe strongly that education and training is vital to keep ahead of emerging science and industry trends. One of my dreams is to have our Salon in Spencer, MA be an East Coast training hub for Osmosis.  I feel everyone should be using Osmosis, as it really is life changing.  We could reach and help train so many salons in our little area. I’m also looking forward to becoming a Holistic Skin Specialist in 2022.
